Chordatabase
Chordatabase is not real. But some day, it could be. Chordatabase is a fictitious electronic entertainment company that specializes in animal simulation integrated with virtual reality. These simulators, originally utilized as a study tool for zoologists, have been commodified to provide the public a chance to see how it feels to be their favorite animals. This assignment was a part of Identity Design, a senior-level design course at MSU. The goal of the semester was to develop a fictitious company’s corporate identity, all the way from the logo to a commercial advert. The nature of the company could be as ordinary or outlandish as desired, a perfect excuse to get creative and think just outside the realm of possibility.
Chordatabase Trademark
The mark is composed of three icons: a computer database, a strand of DNA, and the profile of a user wearing a VR headset. I wanted a transference to be felt as the eye moves across the mark from left to right, representing the information emerging from the database and being beamed into headset visors. My experience as a storyteller aided me with condensing Chordatabase’s narrative into the trademark.
Brochure Exterior
Dozens of fish, mammals, reptiles, birds, and amphibians crowd the outside of the 8.5 x 11 brochure.
Brochure Interior
While deciding which way to organize the information on the inside, I realized it boiled town to answering just three simple questions: What is Chordatabase? How does Chordatabase work? Why would anybody use it?
