Look, when your lifelong friend asks you to make some artwork for his cool band, you just do it.

A design that (unfortunately) may never see the light of day. But it’s SO COOL! I looked at the band’s inspirations and their respective album covers: The Beatles’ “Rubber Soul,” “Are You Experienced?” from The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and “Blowin’ Your Mind!” by Van Morrison. The illustrative typography of those classic albums directly influenced the final design. I started with a blurred sunset, using the light beams as gridlines. The “ST” within the eye of the sun denotes the “Self-Titled” aspect of the LP. Deemed too abstract, I’ve been asked to make another one. Oh well! Good designers don’t take rejection personally.
